The village over distance is clearly seen out from the blanket. However the humans living around the spaceship were different to the humans who will be living in the world now. They were so fat them to be unable to walk. they travelled around in motorised chairs having a monitor and cup & straw attached, chatting on phones and when they happened to fall out they simply laid there until a robot arrived and picked them up. The adults were fat, the youngsters were fat! They just laid around all day long consuming doing no exercise what so ever and quote the captain, "Computer, define dancing". William and the friend Jason bring their bicycles on the attic, shrink themselves, and embark on a journey. They meet Sir Simon because he is getting ready to leave for the tournament, and so they stop at his castle. They spend more time a boy plus a girl with the castle and together. The girl tells them of an omen her grandmother, Calendar, kept repeating before she died. Sir Simon sent Calendar away for the convent as he thought she was crazy and he does not believe the omen. Few accept it but Calendar's granddaughter does. Jason and William believe it too.
