Traditional treatment programs, especially Alcoholics Anonymous, profess that being of service to others is a critical component of addiction recovery. And, I would agree with that perspective. However, everyone?s true life purpose is exclusive and necessarily relate to helping others overcome alcoholism. In fact, 90% of the time, the true-to-life function of an addicted person has nothing regarding addiction recovery. Providing a blanket rule, like AA does, not just leads people astray, nonetheless it?s also counterproductive because helping others sticking with the same affliction usually perpetuates victimization. I've for ages been anyone to have a very set routine that keeps me organized as well as on track, but sometimes I find that I grow sick and tired of my routine and miss a much more 'in the moment' day.
