Exhaust gases are generated from the combustion chamber after the air-fuel mixture is burnt through the Power Stroke. These exhaust gases are "thrown out" in the combustion chamber through the Exhaust Stroke. The exhaust gases, including NOx, move through the Exhaust Valve, the Exhaust Passages and finally towards the atmosphere over the Exhaust System. Diesel particulate filter, filters the particulate matter by forcing the exhaust gases to secure a ceramic wall flow filter. The ceramic wall flow filter has a porous wall and is single ended. When the spent gases are forcibly passed through the porous wall, the particulate matter is filtered as well as the gas is let loose thereby reducing the particulate emission in the atmosphere.
