Just into the last century, furniture makers began making "woodies" as a sideline with their businesses. They would purchase a car or truck with no body, and build a physique from wood. These custom vehicles were often setup like small buses and were widely used by resorts to transport guest both to and from railroad depots. They weren?t called woodies previously. Rather, these were referred to as "depot hacks". In the horse-drawn days, a "hack" was a wagon.
The four auto companies merged into the auto union ag in 1932. In terms of car production, the automobile alliance was the second largest automobile manufacturing company in Germany at the time, and the merchandise was marked by four connected rings, representing four automobile companies participating in the merger.
