Frankfurt is in Germany and the main character is German business, which seems to be the same as the regional nature of the Detroit auto show and the Tokyo motor show. Germany is the birthplace of hyundai motor, the home of mercedes-benz, Volkswagen and audi, and the Frankfurt motor show is a great opportunity for them to strut their stuff
The Volkswagen Beetle is strong competitor of Mercedes Smart. It has a cute exterior design, with nice, curved lines, even though the interior features a multi-functional sport steering wheel, making the car all to easy to control, plus a comfortable back-seat with plenty of legroom, uncharacteristic for such vehicles. Its fuel economy is a little worse compared to the Smart, with 22 mpg/city and 31 mpg/highway, nevertheless the great security features and excellent design must be reason enough to draw young drivers.
