A hard reset basically resets certain parameters of one's iPod returning to default. You will not lose your music and other files. However, some of the settings may reset. The time and date for the iPod will probably be preserved, unless your iPod may be completely drained of all battery then reconnected to power. In that case, you may lose time and date settings. Your other settings, such as bookmarks, playlists, timers, etc. will probably be preserved in the last time you used your iPod.
By default, Windows Firewall blocks incoming connections through the Internet unless the receiving program is about the exceptions list, nevertheless it does absolutely nothing to stop outgoing connections. Even if you uncheck or take away the program from your exceptions list, this modification only affects incoming traffic, so the program could access the Internet.
