The Volkswagen Beetle is strong competitor of Mercedes Smart. It has a cute exterior design, with nice, curved lines, even though the interior features a multi-functional sport steering wheel, making the car all to easy to control, plus a comfortable back-seat with plenty of legroom, uncharacteristic for such vehicles.
