It will be printed on the case somewhere, and you will be either a Nickel Cadmium (NiCd,) Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH,) or Lithium Ion (LiON.). If it is among the first two sorts this strategy is the main one to work with. If however it's a Lithium Ion type then don't use the following technique, as it may have at best no effect, or at worst damages your battery.
